IC Information

Character name: Ibuki Tasuno (Clair)
Character canon: Pokemon AU
Canon point: Shortly after the bombing of Mahogany town.
Physical Description: Headshot! and one of her wetsuits (please note, her hair is a more realistic colour of blue than what is shown.. Clair stands about 5'5, and is physically fit. That said, she's coming in dressed in warm weather gear that's made for exploring ice caves.

About the Character: AU Overview. TL;DR, it's a dark AU where pokemon are, more or less, seen as tools and weapons by general consensus. Not everyone thinks this though, but is a basic part of the culture of the world. Different places place a differing value on tool, but it is Tool. Something that is very much Not a friend. Pokemon are also more realistic, though the degree varies depending on pokemon. But they all have some degree of realism to them.

Into this world came Clair, who was born into a dragon clan known as the Tatsuno. They're Johto's Dragon Clan, and they have a number of smaller vassal clans loyal to them. To say they are on a sliding scale of Ehhh OK I guess to GENOCIDE!! re: Humanity is not an exaggeration.

And now we have the general highlights via DOT POINTS!
  • Clair's about five years old when Lance is born; he's a Forest Child. A rare and special child gifted with unique psychic abilities who are born in certain forests around the world. In the same year, Clair started to help up at the Dragon's Den and is given a newborn dratini to care for by her mother.
  • She started her Journey at the age of 13. She always had a clan-owned abra on her. Before she left, she was gifted a horsea from Lance- another pokemon she treasures deeply; she named the pokemon 'Taru' in honour of him.
  • She'd travel Johto and gain several Gymbagdes before departing for Hoenn about a year later, where she spends roughly a year and gains four more badges. She also witnesses the tactics employed by Aqua and Magma, though it's still years before the region is plunged into outright chaos.

  • She spends several months in Orre before returning to Johto to travel and claim the rest of her badges. She also takes part in Contests, and found a cast-off smoochum in a dumpster.
  • She also started to understand why some in her clan slid towards extremist views on humanity.
  • She started an on-and-off again relationship with Morty that lasts to this day.
  • She learned the finer points of running a gym, knowing she would most likely be eventually called on to take over her mother's gym when the woman retired. While doing this, Clair would also learn more of Johto's history and experience firsthand the iron stranglehold of Kanto's politics, something she would grow to resent.
  • At age 21, Clair adopts 6-year-old Kris. Some days later Kris is formally adopted into the Tatsuno clan as Clair's daughter and heir.
  • Less than a year later, Clair's mother is killed defending the Dragon Holyland from the Rockets. Three days later, Clair is required to take up the Blackthorn gym.
  • Three years later, Kris is kidnapped and Clair spends the next month in near breakdown of worry and panic. Five very long weeks later, Kris somehow returns home to one very worried family, who assume the Worst Happened. The security around the child, and the clan, in general, is beefed up.
  • A year later, on June 21 of 2005, Lance is named one of Kanto's Elites. While at the event, Clair and Morty yet again rekindle the physical side of their undefined relationship.
  • 2006/7 are Very long years. They basically involve the adoption of some of the Dark Souls Cast a family unit into the clan, the relocation of dragons into the HolyLand, and a cave-in at one of the non-public Ice Caves that kills a trainer and injures several others. The Rockets behind it are subsequently tracked down and arrested. Lance and Clair later have a private 'Talk' with the Rockets.
  • In 2010 Battle Park falls under investigation by local LEOs due to Rocket activity. In November of the same year, Clair learns Kris and three of her friends were involved in a tangle with the Rockets up at the Lake of Rage and that Lance and Karen bailed them out, twice. To make matters worse, two days later the Rockets bomb Mahogany with pokemon and weapons, killing hundreds and injuring even more in the attacks.
  • This is when Clair will come into the game, not knowing if her daughter is safe.

The first thing one notices about Clair is the pride and grace she holds and conducts herself within most situations. She does not mince words with anyone, nor take bullshit well. However, her pride can and sometimes does outweigh that hard-earned grace; in these times she is stubborn and selfish, almost bratty in nature, as she refuses to budge on the topic, be it a lost pokemon battle or the fact she's simply wrong about something. It's in these times she looks down on those she thinks of as inferior. It is an elitist attitude spawned from her upbringing and status within the clan, something only compounded by the fact that she is a Gym Leader. She has power; she's not afraid to use it, though she tries hard not to abuse it without a reason, given the lessons she was taught at a young age.

Clair places more stock in her abilities than she should at times though and this has lead to occasions where she's been forced into accepting her own weaknesses, something that, while she is bitter about, she picks herself up and moves forward. There's no use wallowing in self-pity, be it in private or public. She simply gets on with the job or task at hand, and once she starts on a goal, she rarely looks back. Regrets, to Clair, are useless and not something that should be dwelt upon.

She is a focused, passionate person when it comes to her goals who will stop at nothing to obtain them. In a world where power is everything, Clair expects the best from herself and those around her. This comes from a simple fact: her clan is known, famous even, for training some of the most difficult to work with pokemon. Where slacking off or simply not paying attention could mean serious injury or even death. This is a lesson she learned at a young age and saw reinforced over the years.

Yet Clair is not overly cruel towards the animals she trains, though some might find her tactics heavy-handed or even excessive -going so far as to use a whip at times- but they are never done without reason. Clair knows dragons like any expert would; the intelligent animals respect power but do not respect senseless violence or discipline without explanation, though they can be cowed into submission if exposed to it from a young age. Clair has had to learn this the hard way and while she has very much been forged by her world, she holds a respect for a dragon's power. Other pokemon... That still needs work.

However, in extreme emotional states, she reverts to her younger years, blaming pokemon and people for her own failings instead of owning up to them. It's easier to blame others than accept her own wrongdoings. It doesn't happen often, but it can and does happen. It can be said that Clair has somewhat deep bonds with her pokemon, yet at the same time, she does her best to disallow too a deep a bond, as that is seen as a weakness. Verbally, she will praise them but never acknowledge they mean more to her than as prized possessions; yet she does have those she has a deep bond with despite what she says. It's unthinkable and something she does, deep down and buried under a layer or twenty of rust, regret. But the world is what it is.

Her duties are everything to Clair, but if it came down to choosing between family, clan, and gym, she would choose family. She is every inch a mother dragon who'll fight until her dying breath to defend what she views as hers. It is both her greatest strength and greatest weakness.

On the outside, she is poised and aloof, with the odd sarcastic or even comments that could be taken as her being a troll (such as her actions with her cousin; the media tends to construe them as a couple and neither help this view), thoroughly dedicated to her duties. Yet these are masks that she wears for the sake of her duties, be they self-imposed or not. It is only in the comfort of home or around family that she relaxes, allowing the kind and caring soul underneath to show, seen often in the kind words, the jokes she shares (and the comments that could be taken as her trolling or 'shipping' people together,) and gestures she spares for friends, family, and her dearest and most valued pokemon. At the end of the day, she values her family, even if she will poke and prod at them. Once she has decided that something is hers, she has burned the bridge that would see her reneg on it. She adopted a child and raised a 'blood born' daughter. She raised cousins to the point they might as well be siblings. Hurt one and she will end you, yet hold one hostage and Clair will fold like a deck of cards, unable to forgive herself for not doing the impossible and keeping them safe. It's something she does her best to keep hidden.

That said, Clair is not immune to the need to find, and even exploit, weakness where she can; never mind the world around her, she was raised in a clan where politicking (at least amongst the females) is common, sometimes almost akin to breathing. Yet, the respect she holds for those she considers her family and her friends holds her back from actively exploiting them. Strangers and acquaintances or even the clan should the need arise, on the other hand, are fair game and she would not be above dirtying her hands to obtain what she wants. While she is satisfied with her current position of gymleader, and generally secure in her position as heiress, she is a product of her world where power is might and Clair would not hesitate to make a powerplay should it benefit her.

Clair is desensitised towards the brutality her world offers on the value of a life. Yet that is not to say she does not have her own thoughts on it and her place in life or the value of one. Clair thinks nothing of pokemon battling; it's a fact of life and her pokemon seem to enjoy it anyway, but she does dislike battling to the death, viewing it as a waste of a tool. Yet, she has no qualms about doing so should it happen, aiming to win no matter the cost Battles to the death happen. She would mourn, yet she would move on soon enough that someone unfamiliar with the world would call her a stone heart.

Due to the violence that she is confronted with on a semi-regular basis, Clair does not feel she has blood on her hands. Why should she have blood on her hands if she's never directly taken the life of a human? nor does she pity or despise those who have. It's just life. That said, like many in her clan, she is perfectly willing to slide towards the genocide side of the scale if push comes to shove, but she's typically even-keeled and one of the first to advocate not killing someone. Yet, at the same time... she's willing to look the other way on human-death. It's not her hands that are bloody. Never mind that her pokemon are considered Blooded by society. She's from an Old Clan; having Blooded pokemon is all but an open secret and Clair holds no regrets for the past.

To do so would be stupid.

As a gymleader, she is legally neutral and required to stay out of politics on a whole as a Gymleader, her case is complicated by being Heiress to the Tatsuno. The League ruling dictated that she is only allowed to participate in inter-clan politics. Nevertheless, she is very, very careful to keep her thoughts on opinions on Kanto in public to acceptable levels, unable to comment on the justified and growing unrest in Johto. Internally, she's very much resentful of Kanto and the iron grip it has. Not only do they continue to annex the nation and dominate them in League Politics (not helped by the fact Sinnoh continues its support of Kanto as the 'senior' nation), they are unable to keep their problems within their borders. To say that it is frustrating when dealing with many in Kanto who hold rank or are politicians is an understatement, and Clair holds no love for the neighbouring nation. Her love is for her own nation, people, and customs.

Character abilities:
- Her team of pokemon (the on hand ones)
- Her bag: It's an older one, limited to 30 slots. Each slot holds 99 of one item. While the technology behind it can last for years, this is only when the bag is used as directed.
- She's from the world of pokemon, so it should be said that she's well aware of dangerous situations and how to generally cope with them, along with what we'd call some really creative thinking. On top of that, she is trained in how to handle a type of pokemon that is generally considered hard to train (dragons). Yet as a trainer, she knows the pokemon she trains.
- Clair is a trained politician. She might not enjoy it but she knows how to speak politics.
- She has survival skills, though these are naturally adapted to a world with pokemon. That said, she can function without them. She's simply not accustomed to doing so.
- She has a mastery of the whip (+how to use it to command her pokemon), as well as polearms and how to fight with one both on foot and on dragon-back, though she is not the clan champion; that position belongs to Lance.
- she knows self-defence. She's not a master of it, but she can disable someone long enough to make an escape.
- She knows how to ride draagonback with only a loop of leather to hold onto.
